Anti-Aging Peptide Cream, an anti-wrinkle moisturiser, contains 3 % Matrixyl®, a ground-breaking new active which stimulates the formation of collagen synthesi.

¤ Matrixyl® is the tradename for palmitoyl pentapeptide-3, part of the family of matrikines – peptidic fragment messengers involved in the natural process of tissue repair. It stimulates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for production of collagen and elastin fibres, helping to reform the skin’s extracellular matrix. Application of Matrixyl® results in synthesis of collagens, fibronectin and glycosaminoglycans. It offers an effective anti-wrinkle alternative to retinol. After a few weeks, as the extracellular matrix and the dermo-epidermal junction are repaired, the result is a plumping-out of wrinkles. Skin is softer, wrinkles diminish.

¤ In vitro studies have demonstrated its physiological activity : Matrixyl® stimulates:

• synthesis of collagens I and III and fibronectin - 50 micromoles resulting in an increase of over 320 % ;
• synthesis of collagen IV on aged fibroblasts - an increase of 257 % with 4 % Matrixyl® ;
• synthesis of glycosaminoglycans on fibroblasts – an increase of over 267 % with 2 % Matrixyl® ;
• 16 genes involved in skin healing mechanisms.

¤ These findings are confirmed by in vivo studies which showed that :

• after four months’ application of a cream containing Matrixyl®, main wrinkle depth decreased by over 24% and volume by almost 37 %. Skin roughness was reduced by almost 13 % ; biopsies performed after four months showed a notable increase in the density and thickness of elastin fibres as well as in the regularity of collagen IV in the dermo-epidermal junction ;
• compared with a cream containing retinol (0.07 %), daily application of a 3 % Matrixyl® cream produced an effect much more rapidly : skin thickness increased by 6.5 % in two months and by 8.6 % in four months ;
• after six months’ application twice-daily of a 3 % Matrixyl® cream, wrinkle depth decreased by 21.6 %, skin roughness by 16.4 %, wrinkle volume by 24.4 %, main lines density by 46.8 % and wrinkle surface by 67.8 %.
